Want Super Fast Broadband? Broadband arrived in Storth in December 2003. Since then little has changed to keep pace with internet developments such as TV on demand services etc. Whilst many in the cities enjoy superfast broadband, most households in the village get well below the 8mbps speeds advertised by ISP's. Those in more rural parts of the parish struggle to get 2mbs. BT's CN21 upgrades to exchanges to provide up to 40mbps are not even planned for the local exchanges. If and when upgrades are implemented BT will still rely on the use of old fashioned copper wire and provide a service far worse then in many developed countries like South Korea, Sweden or Latvia. A community based project in North Lancashire will start rolling out an all fibre service with download and upload speeds of 1000mbps for £30pm later this year. (Yes 1000mbps is not a misprint). Storth and Beetham may be able to benefit from this project and get an ultra fast broadband service that is truly fit for the 21st century. |
