STORTH DEVELOPMENT CONSULTATION

Are you aware that South Lakeland District Council is preparing a Local Development Framework which will determine where the Council will encourage affordable housing and employment areas? Did you know that these proposals include options that will see the creation of new housing and businesses on green field sites in Storth? If the answers no, you need to see the consultation document that is available to view at SLDC's offices in Kendal or at the public Libraries in Milnthorpe and Arnside or download it here (Large document 25mb). These proposals include building new housing in the field pictured above to the north of Yans Lane behind the properties on Storth Road and to the south of Quarry Lane. Industrial development land has been identified next to Cockshots Lane at the South end of the village. These developments will have a major impact for most residents of Storth so its important you read and understand what is being proposed and then make your views known. The initial consultation period ends on 30 May. Make your views known here.
You can also make your views known to your local councillors - Ian Stewart and Prudence Jupe

of Core Strategy Document. 30. EAST STORTH – Dense mixed woodland and limestone outcrops limit the potential for development. 31. WEST STORTH – Dense mixed woodland forms the western edge of Storth and screens the settlement from the coast road. Most of the well established vegetation lines the route of the dismantled railway that is likely to comprise many native species and promotes a good quality coastal environment providing natural shelter. This landscape value limits the potential for development that would change the character of this area. 32. NORTH EAST STORTH – To the north of Yans Lane an area of pastoral fields opens up, which backs onto houses along Storth Road. This area is enclosed by woodland to the east and could therefore accommodate new development. A limestone quarry and the rocky outcrops at Haverbrack Bank limit any further development in this direction. 33. SOUTH STORTH – To the south of Cockshot Lane there are glimpsed views out to the countryside but hedgerow boundaries and mature trees enclose the pastoral fields immediately adjacent to the road. A row of bungalows occupies the opposite side of the road so development is possible here as woodland screens views. Also see page 189 of the Core Strategy Document. |
